Department of Commerce is one of the pioneering academic department of the college, established in the year 2005. The UG programme offered by the department is B Com. Initially; Travelling and Tourism formed the specialisation for B Com. But from 2009 admission onwards, the specialisation subjects changed to Finance. It is credited with the status of a major department with nearly 50% of the students are studying. The sanctioned intake is approved as 40 seats. But the department is availing Marginal Increase of seats from the University every year and thereby providing admissions to maximum number of students up to the Statutory Limit of 60 or 70 seats. In the last year (2021-22), the actual intake of the department has risen to 71 , including one foreign student admitted as per the advice from the Dean of Student Welfare , University of Calicut. There are 4 faculty positions in the department all of which are placed with permanent faculty members.

B Com is one of the highly demanded UG programme all across the state. The same sentiments prevail in the college. Average number of applicants per year is around 3500 for a meagrely sanctioned seats of 40; thus providing a course demand ratio of around 88 times. Finance is the specialisation area for B Com in our college. As the B Com programme has got permanent affiliation from the University of Calicut, syllabus and curriculum will based on the approved syllabus of University of Calicut. Course syllabi will be revised by the Board of Studies of the University mostly by every three years. B Com programme aims to provide knowledge and skills on commerce and management related topics such as Accounting, Marketing, HR, Business Law, Investment, Capital Market , Quantitative Techniques, Research Methods, etc. These knowledge will help the learners in finding a job in the employment market and will supplement their pursuit of passing professional examinations such as CA, CMA, CS, etc.
Students are required to study the following types of courses
- Common Courses ( to be studied by all UG students of B Com / BA/ B Sc)
- Core Courses ( commerce subjects such as Accounting, Law, etc)
- Complimentary Courses ( subjects related to commerce topics and will be helpful in learning core course )
- Open Course ( course offered by the other departments in the college and the student can choose for learning )
- Audit Courses (topics which are generic in nature and are related to public interest , which all the UG students needs to study and qualify )
- Finance Specialisation Courses ( Electives / Optional ) consists of 2 courses each in the fifth and sixth semesters . (Financial Markets and Services , Financial Management in the Fifth Semester and Fundamentals of Investment and Financial Derivatives in the Sixth Semester)
- Complimentary courses includes Managerial Economics , Marketing management , Basic Numerical Skills , and Quantitative Techniques for Business ( One course each in semester 1 to 4)

- 22-08-2005 -Provisional Affiliation to B Com Travel and Tourism received from the Calicut University vide UO No:GA1/04/7014/2004 Dated 22-08-2005
- 13-09-2005 – First Year B Com classes temporarily started at the community Hall of Chittur Block Panchayath
- September 2007- B Com classes ( second year and third year) shifted to the newly constructed college building
- 21-01-2008 – Post creation of teaching post ( 2 Nos) vide GO(MS)6/2008/H Edn. Dated 21/01/2008
- 10-06-2008 – Appointment of regular teachers through PSC made ( 2 teachers joined)
- September 2008 –First year classes of B Com shifted to the newly constructed college building
- June 2009 –Choice Based Credit and Semester System ( 4 point scale Direct Grading) for B Com introduced from 2009 admissions onwards
- 2013 – 2 more teaching posts created for Commerce Department vide GO(MS)No:550/2013/H Edn. Dated 30-07-2013
- 2014 – Choice Based Credit and Semester System (6 point scale Indirect Grading) for B Com introduced from 2014 admissions onwards
- 30-06-2015- Permanent Affiliation for B Com obtained from Calicut University w e f 2013-14 onwards ( UO No:6874/2015/Admn. Dated 30-06-2015 of CDC )
- 2015- IFRS introduced as core course for B Com
- 2019 –Choice Based Credit and Semester System (10 point scale Indirect Grading) introduced for B Com w.e.f. 2019 admissions
